20 Weeks

Whooooaaa we're halfway there! Whoaaaaa! Cannot believe this is the halfway mark!!  I missed last week - I've been busy busy either working or preparing for the Holidays which were woonderful!

Last week I had a routine appt.  They always listen to the baby's heartbeat with the doppler and it appeared that the baby was having some decels.  I couldn't feel her moving at the time and in all reality that's the most likely cause - her heart was just moving and the doppler starts to pick up my heartbeat.  Either way, the nurse practitioner that saw us wanted us to run over the ultrasound just so they could watch her heartbeat for a min a make sure things looked ok.  When we got there her heart was a little slower than it had been, more like 140 beats but as low as 125.  The normal range is 120-160ish so technically that's within normal and they weren't overly concerned.  I go back for my anatomy scan today so they will take a good look at the heart, cord, etc. and make sure everything at least looks healthy!  Send some prayers our way :)

I've been feeling fine though... starting to feel a little on the fat side.  This middle stage is kind of awkward in that I definitely am developing a bump but in everyday clothes it's unlikely that most people would think I'm pregnant.  Still fitting into my regular clothes but I did have to break out the belly band to get one of my smaller pairs of dress pants on :)

I'm still feeling her move all the time so that's reassuring that she's developing just fine :)  I haven't been extra hungry or anything until the last week or so and then I feel like I'm starving all the time!  Maybe baby girl is trying to fatten up a bit.

Still haven't committed to a name, although Andy calls her Emma Kate all the time.  We will see.  Harper is pretty good with her C words given she has Claire, Cam, Carrie and Kate to practice with so maybe she'd prefer a little sister named Caroline. haha :)

17 Months

Just noticed that Harper is 17 months and the baby is 17 weeks!! We've been trying to talk to Harper more about the baby but she has no clue.  We'll point to my belly and tell her the baby is in there... and then when we ask her where mama's baby is she only cares to tickle my belly button! ha  I think Harper is going to do great with her though.  She loves Claire and is always so concerned with her if she's crying.  She also loves to put her animals in all of Claire's swings/bouncers/carseat and will cover them with a blanket and then rock them.  She also loves to put herself in all these baby toys but that's another story....

November was pretty great - It was a much lighter workload for me so we got lots more family time in! Harper is still entertaining us nonstop of course.  We took her and Olivia to the zoo one weekend which was a lot of fun... and work! Poor Olivia has recently had her ACL repaired so couldn't use crutches all over the park so we just rented her a wheelchair.  So the plan was Harper would ride in her stroller and OJ in the wheelchair... well... Harper wasn't having the stroller.  There was way too much to see and do that could not be accomplished being restrained in a wheelchair.  That meant one person was responsible for manning the stroller and chasing the Harper which kept us pretty busy!!  Harper loved the elephants this time.  The zoo was practically empty as it was a bit chilly so that was nice to not have so many crowds fighting to see everything.

Maybe all kids are the same but one thing we have found about Harper is that if you give her an inch she will continue to fight you for more and more.  Ie, if you let her get out of the stroller once at the zoo she's going to want to do it all day long.  If you let her stand at church she's going to be whining nonstop to cruise down the pew to touch all the books.  I'd say she's just a tiny bit strong willed....

Her vocabulary is still increasing all the time but her comprehension is what is so amazing right now.  She really understands just about everything we ask her to do.  Although sometimes she exhibits selective hearing once you get her attention she will usually do what you ask.  Reading books is how I love to see what objects she knows - she will point to everything you request.

We put up our christmas tree a couple days after Thanksgiving and Harper is in love with it.  She really loves her Christmas tree the most though.  She probably asks us ten times a day to go upstairs and will race down the hall and into her room and say 'wooooow woooow' lol.  Her tree is up on a dresser so we don't have to worry about her touching it but she's done great with our big tree as well.  Although at times we have caught her using other objects to touch it... ie, will take her bunny and touch it's hand to the tree. lol  can't blame her for being creative!  She also loves to help with the Christmas presents/wrapping.  She will sit on the box for me while I wrap, pull out 18 inches of tape at a time, and unroll all the ribbon and then wrap it around herself... such a big helper!! ;)  But then she does faithfully take the presents and set them under the tree for me everytime :)

She started cutting molars over Thanksgiving... phew... that is no fun.  We were at my parents one night and she was up crying probably every hour and we had no clue what was wrong.  We thought she was waking up and then got scared because she had no idea where she was.  Then the next morning we saw her huge swollen gums.  They looked horrible.  She was a fussy lady for our first round of Thanksgiving at the Kings as I forgot to give her any tylenol before we went but for the next round with the Hamilton's she was back to her happy little self.  She cut two on the top at first and is now working on the bottoms.

She had such a big time at the Hamilton's thanksgiving.  She is seriously such a show off and loves having people paying attention to her.  We will beg her to do her 'celebration dance' for us and she refuses but the second my brothers walk in our door she's down on the floor trying to entertain us.  She had a big time running around with all her second cousins and especially loved snacking with Miss Kennedy when the appetizer table happened to be just their size ;)

She's still running around in 12-18 month things, moving up to size 5 shoes.  She weighed herself on our scale the other day and it says 21.4 so who knows how accurate.  She is finally tall enough to climb herself onto our ottomans/couches... can't say we're excited about that ;)  And she's just tall enough to reach door knobs but not quite big enough to actually turn them.  I am especially not excited for that! haha

Here's a couple pictures

17 Weeks

The past week has been pretty uneventful except I am officially feeling the baby move!! I'm on nights this week so I spend a decent amount of time laying wide awake waiting for the next page and that gives me time to pay attention to little baby rolling around in there.  I think that's probably the coolest thing about being pregnant :)

I think Harper and I have passed some little bug back and forth this week but fortunately my immune system has been strong enough to fight it with only feeling super nauseated.  Her on the other hand.... she has woken her dad up at 6AM 3 days in a row, crying, with diarrhea covering her and her crib.  Bless both their little hearts!!

16 weeks

Well we have an exciting update to share this week - Harper is going to have a baby sister!!  As I had mentioned before Andy has been dying to know but I insisted we wait. Well, we had planned to do a gender reveal party next weekend but my Dad was on call so the next weekend we could do it was the weekend after Christmas... an awfully long time to wait.  But, we did plan on waiting... in fact I had already ordered something from etsy that we were going to use to make the reveal.  Then I woke up the  day before Thanksgiving and asked Andy if he just wanted to find out that day.  Of course he said yes so we decided that if we could get an appt at one of the pregnancy spas in town then we would go get an ultrasound done and find out!  Sure enough they were able to squeeze us in and although she was sitting so proper with her little legs crossed in front of her our tech was able to coerce her into moving a bit.  I didn't feel surprised at all for some reason.  For quite a few weeks I had thought it was a boy but then for the last couple weeks I had been thinking girl.

Andy decided he was going to skip Thanksgiving festivities and head back to the office to make some more money for the weddings in his future... I reassured him that we would be saving so much money with all the hand-me-downs from Harper ;)  Of course we are so excited to have two sweet girls and I hope they will be the best of friends!!  And I hope they think I'm not too embarrassing to hang out with either ;)  And with baby Claire right across the street... these girls could be a handful in just a few short years!!

Everyone is now asking about names and for some reason I'm having a hard time with it - we had our boy name picked out for sure but not positive about girls.  Our other girl name last time was Emma Kate and Andy still loves that.  I also really like Caroline though at the moment... but then I'm always thinking of other ones I love too.  We will see!

Anyhoo,  here's our little update for the week

12 Weeks

Okay, have a memorable moment from this week to share.  No one in my residency program knew I was pregnant except for the program director... I was waiting until we were out of the first trimester to share the news.  So this week I was at dinner with some fellow residents and some fourth year medical students who are interviewing with our program.  There was this one candidate who was sitting across the table from me and about 3 people down that I literally had not spoken to the entire night because we  were so far apart.  I was chatting with the guy next to him about his kids when out of nowhere this dude is like 'are you pregnant?'  I was seriously speechless... we hadn't spoken at all and everyone knows you don't ask anyone if they're pregnant until they are approximately 38 weeks pregnant and cleeeeearly about ready to pop.  Anyhoo... I looked around the table and my fellow residents were wide-eyed and totally shocked but I answered with actuuuually I am although I really feel like maybe you just called me fat? harharhar... But no really, I'm only 12 weeks pregnant and don't really have a bump yet so I have no idea how you would know that.  He quickly informed me that he has the uncanny ability to tell things about small children and pregnant women... and that I did have a little bit of a baby bump............... lol  fortunately I can laugh about this but not gonna lie, my sugary cereal consumption has been cut back since this little incident ;)  oh, and im pretty confident he's not going to be very high on UK's rank list ;)

6 Weeks

I wasn't sure if I'd be able to keep up with weekly updates of this pregnancy and monthly of Harper but I'm going to do my best.  The one thing that I decided I'd have to change to keep my sanity is taking my weekly pic in whatever outfit I happen to be wearing at the time! haha.  It makes me a little sad when comparing pregnancies but when I was pregnant with H it seriously consumed my thoughts.  I was excited to read all my little pregnancy apps each morning to find out what was going on every day.  Not that I'm not excited for this baby but I guess having a toddler running around just takes away a lot of that attention.  I used to feel bad about having a second kid and taking so much attention away from Harper, but after having Claire here I feel bad for future baby and the lack of attention they may get as a newborn than Harper did! haha  Toddlers require a lot!! And newborns do too but typically if they are fed and dry then they can be snuggled right to sleep :)  I guess the good thing about this being the second time around is the anxiety factor is so much lower!

At 6 weeks I've been feeling fine, absolutely no symptoms which is possibly worse to a pregnant lady than some symptoms!

Andy and Laura plus ANOTHER one :)

This post was written 10/13/13.  I love keeping family and friends connected to our little family through the blog but ultimately this serves as a better way for me to keep a little babybook/memory book for us so I went ahead and posted :)

I'm sure half the world knows by now but our little family of 3 will soon be expanding to 4!! So hard to believe but we could not be happier!

I don't have a very exciting story about how I told Andy this time as I thought the likelihood of me being pregnant was about zero.  But he had been asking me to take a pregnancy test so I did one night and after waiting the 3 minutes he hears an 'oh my god' from the bathroom. ha!  Obviously we were thrilled and had planned on keeping it a secret from our families at least until the first ultrasound.  Well then I had some worrisome symptoms so of course called my favorite ob/gyn for some advice.  And then Andy and I have a hard time keeping our mouths shut so we told Olivia (who surprisingly was the best person at keeping a secret?!).  Dad agreed to do an ultrasound at 7 weeks to look for a heartbeat as I wasn't supposed to be seen at UK until 8.5.  Of course OJ wanted to come so she tells Mom, 'I'm going to be late for practice tonight' and when Mom questions why she says, 'Um, bc Laura is pregnant.' I'm sure Mom was perplexed by that but I was just too worried about everything to plan a more fun reveal :)  Anyhoo, it took him a minute but we finally saw the beautiful little flicker of a heartbeat at 143 bpm!!  We told our siblings the next day by letting Harper run around in her 'big sis' shirt and also facetimed Andy's parents to show them her cute little message!

My due date is May 15th so this baby and Harper will be around 22 months apart.  Life is going to be crazy but we are so thankful for both of our beautiful little babies!!

16 Months!

One of my cousins last year had a brand new baby around Christmas time and a busy little toddler running around as well.  Everyone was (not so) patiently waiting their turn to cuddle that brand new baby and she said something along the lines of how everyone loves the new babies so much but they really get fun when they're a little bit older.  Now I loved, loved the newborn stage where they want to be cuddled all day long but really Harper makes every day so FUN now!  She is hilarious and constantly is surprising us and keeping us so entertained!

We've had a great, although busy last month! Our most exciting part was definitely Halloween with a close second being Mom finishing her worst rotations of residency :)  Well I guess we've had a couple other exciting things but we'll get to that soon enough :)  Harper went as a sheep and somehow we coerced her into wearing the whole outfit on the big day.  I was so bummed because I was scheduled to work Halloween night at 5:30PM but fortunately I begged another intern to cover for me for 3 hours so I could do trick or treat with my girl!  Then Lexington was forecasted to have horrible storms so it got rescheduled for Friday, Nov 1st.  Even better!  That week at school Harper had 2 halloween parties - the first day I sent her in her UK cheerleader outfit cause it's comfy and I knew she wouldn't be upset in it.  The second day I put her just in the sheep body but left off the hat and hooves.  Surprisingly, she wore it all day.  Andy had been bribing her by telling her the outfit was a coat that she had to wear if she wanted to go outside... and she loves going outside so she was okay with it ;)  So for Halloween itself somehow Andy got the whole outfit on her and she wore it the whole time we were outside! We just sat out in the driveway letting her run around and see all the neighborhood trick or treaters.  She had a blast and developed a serious love for candy.  So much that she threw a serious tantrum the next morning when she wasn't allowed to have any for breakfast ;)

We also made a trip to the orchard which is always fun :)  Harper loves balls and pumpkins resemble balls so she was in heaven.  We had fun tailgating at the UK games and usually make it til about halftime before either Harper has had enough or we've had enough ;)  The one good thing about UK being so horrible this year is the seats are basically empty and we can spread out and give H plenty of room to run around.  And eat.  The child probably eats more calories during UK games than she does throughout the rest of the weekend.

She is as busy as ever and getting so smart!  Her favorite toys right now include a singing bear that moves its mouth so she always pretends it's biting her, purses (which she fills with as much junk as she can find and then drags them around with her), books, her horse stuffed animal, her bunny she sleeps with and then normal 16 month old things like bracelets and chapstick ;)  She is saying a few more words though they are not easy to decipher by the untrained ears... please, thank you, again, all done (the grammer police would be proud ;)), claire/kate/cam (they all kind of sound the same) and grace.  Goodness... the girl asks to say grace probably ten times per meal.  If you ever accidentally fold your  hands during a meal she will immediately ask you to say grace.

A funny thing happened to us at church the other day.  Andy was out of town so it was just the girls.  Harper had been pretty good throughout mass but by the time communion rolled around she was finished.  It had already been an hour and she was about to lose it.  I asked her to put her jacket on so we could go home after communion so then she proceeded to yell bye bye bye bye bye to everyone while blowing kisses as we walked down the aisle.  So much for sneaking out.

Of course she is still verrrry into animals.  Her new favorite animal noise is a lion... roooooooar! haha  Horses are probably still the favorite though.  We took a trip to Keeneland one morning where we had breakfast at the track kitchen and then watched the horses warm up.  Harper loved seeing the horses and we had such a fun time!

We had her 15 month doctor appt which was not the best... She started screaming from the minute the weighed her until we walked out the door.  They were calling her Harper the Howler!! I think she weighed around 20 lbs and was 30.5 inches.  She got a bunch of shots which of course she was not happy about.  We talked to the doctor about getting rid of the paci and then basically decided to just go cold turkey.  She had been using it only for naps and bed but we just got rid of it after Claire moved out and took her pacis with her ;)  She has done well although has only been taking 1 nap for me on the days I've been able to be home with her.  There are times when I really want to cave and give it to her but we've held strong so far ;)

And our other little snippet of news that everyone knows by now... Harper is going to be a big sister in May!! We are super excited and thankful that everything is going smoothly so far with this pregnancy :)  I really think there's nothing better in the world than siblings and though I know Harper will eventually agree the poor girl has no idea how her little world is going to change in a few short months ;)  It might be Andy's opportunity to replace me as the one Harper loves the most! haha :)

Here's a few pics

15 Months

Better late than never!! I started my busiest rotation of residency and that combined with a broken screen means I thought Harper might never see the blog again.  But her Grammy begged and Mom has a lot of downtime at the hospital so Harper will finally get her update this month :)

Harper is just as wild as usual and all over the place.  We thought she was such a fast crawler a couple months ago but now she is running everywhere and is super quick to disappear!  She is becoming more and more independent and really has no fear of anyone or anything.  We were watching Olivia practice soccer one night and let her run across the field not thinking she'd get too far away from Mom and Dad.. nope, little girl was halfway across the field before she even thought about turning around to see what we thought of it.

We think we have a little athlete in the making and Granddad Hamilton is convinced she's going to be a little tomboy.  She loooves being outside and likes to sit on our front walk and just play in the mulch.  She is no longer scared of grass and loves to run downhill until she falls... which of course she thinks is hilarious.  Her dad got her a basketball goal which she enjoys dunking in :)  She also loves to bring her little mini louisville slugger bat and ball to you and will wait for you to hit the ball and then fetch it... kind of like a dog but obviously much cuter ;)  Of course we got her a soccer ball too which she finally figured out to use her feet on and not her hands!  Another perk of living with Uncle David is that he brings Harper a new ball home about every other day! ha

One of the less pleasant things Harper has now started doing is saying 'eh eh eh eh eh eh' to get whatever she wants... more food, a drink of what you're drinking, you to read a book to her, etc. etc. So nonstop we are reminding her to 'say please harper.'  Which she will do... but it's going to be a sad day in her life when she realizes please doesn't always get you what you're asking for ;)

I guess since it's been over a month since I've written I forgot to mention that Baby Claire is here and getting so big, so quick!!  And we've been lucky to have them living with us for the past few weeks!!! Their house is almost finished so we will still have them across the street but it's been so nice getting to see all of them so much.  At first Harper didn't really care much about Claire but she has gotten pretty fond of her! She loves to pat the baby and give her kisses.  And whenever Claire cries Harper always loves to investigate what's bothering her.  Additionally, Harper and David are finally friends ;)  Maybe because of the squishy balls he brings her from the hospital?? who knows..

Harper has been doing great at school.  With my awful schedule the past couple months I haven't been able to drop her off but Andy reports that the last 2-3 weeks she has been excited to get there, begs to get down, blows him a kiss and then is off playing!  She is always soo sleepy when she gets picked up as we really have been able to get down to only 1 nap/day yet.  They sent home some artwork which was awfully sweet although I'm not sure if Harper or her teacher did more of it... ;)

She's still eating pretty well for the most part though she definitely loves fruit the most.  If she gets fruit early during a meal then it's game over and that's all she will want to eat.  Her real favorite food is probably pizza... our tiny little girl ate two pieces of papa johns faster than me the other day before I had to cut her off and start giving her green beans. I'm not sure where all the food goes!

We've been to a few UK games which are very, very different this season.  She has done well for the most part.  The first game was seriously hot and I was about to die from baby wrangling.  The other games have been night games and bedtime is around 8 these days so we've been able to make it until halftime and then had to go home to get sleeping beauty her sleep.  She loves running around the parking lot, begging people for food ;) Of course you can't be offended if Harper won't let you hold her... it's not that she doesn't like you she just has a big world that needs exploring!! :)

One of her funniest new things is what we call the celebration dance.  It involves her spinning around on the floor super fast, kind of like a breakdancer.  We were trying to get her to spike the football, give her touchdown sign and then the dance... we're yet to combine the three but working on it.  She will also turn in circles if you ask her to dance for you.. until she falls over from being dizzy ;)

She has gotten much better and minding what she's told to do.  She knows she can't touch this table of decorations in our foyer but I often watch her walk in there and just stare at them longingly while wringing her hands lol.  She's also better about not climbing the stairs nonstop.  Usually when she takes off towards the stairs we don't even follow because she just likes to sit on the first step for a while and swing her feet then comes back and finds us.

She loves, loves to stand at our back window and yell at birds, groundhogs, dogs, etc.  It will entertain for approx 5 minutes which is an eternity in baby world.

Still only 6 teeth but I think she may be working on another.  Not sure how much she weighs though we finally go to the MD next week for her 15 month check up.  Wearing mostly 12-18 month clothes and looking seriously cute in them and all her shoes now that she finally leaves them on! :)

Here's a few pics :)
