Seven Months

Harper turned a big 7 months yesterday! I mentioned to Olivia that I need to start contemplating themes for a 1st birthday party... Olivia said it should be "older than dirt" lol.  While 7 months does make her seem like such a big girl I'm not quite sure she's to the 'older than dirt' stage!

The past month has been fun for us - she's getting so talkative, eating a ton of different foods, sitting up well and got her first two teeth!  Andy and I also went on our first real date night persay since Miss Harper has been with us :)  She would sit for a few minutes with some help and wobbles last time I posted but now she is doing great sitting all by herself for however long she wants to.  I think it's my favorite milestone that she's hit just cause it  makes playing with her a lot more fun.  Andy loves to practice rolling a ball back and forth with her!

I've been making her food still and she continues to be a pretty good eater.  We have found one food that she will refuse though... eggplant.  Not that we blame her... I do like eggplant but prefer it to be breaded and fried ;)  Harper got hers steamed and pureed... definitely not the same.  She took two bites and then wouldn't open her mouth anymore lol.  It was so bitter and I don't really season her food yet so maybe we'll just come back to that.  Some favorites include peas, squash, bananas, sweet potatoes and oatmeal of course.  We love to watch her eat the squash because I just steam spears of it and let her feed herself.  She does great but makes such a mess.  I've also given her bites of my yogurt a few times which she loooves.  We tried carrots one day and a day later I noticed a little rash on her belly - not sure if that was coincidental or what but I'm going to try those again in a month or so.

She did get her first little illness last week :(  I got another cold about 2 weeks ago and then the next week our babysitter had one.  She also had a fever one day so she stayed home that day.  The next day we noticed Harper was super warm and it turned out she had a low grade temp.  She was a little fussier and cuddlier than normal but not too bad.  We just gave her tylenol for a couple days and that seemed to tide her over.  I did make an appointment to get her into the evening peds clinic cause she was still running a fever... but then I got home and she was seriously so happy that I opted to cancel.  The mom side of me would prefer that she go to the dr. but the dr. side of me knew she was not a sick baby at all.  Plus, with the flu being so bad this year I'd hate to expose her to all those other sick kiddos.

We were surprised by her little teeth a couple weeks ago!  We had an engagement party for a friend and had put Harper down for a nap that evening around 6PM.  The party was at 7:30 so we figured she'd be up and ready to go by then.  Imagine how surprised we were when the wild thing slept through the entire party and into the morning.  There were like 50 people here directly under her bedroom so we were completely shocked that she slept through it but weren't surprised the next day when we saw that first little glimmer of white under her gums.  It was a couple days later that the second one cut through.  They're awfully cute!!  She's pretty entertained with them as well.  She will turn her tongue sideways and run it across the teeth just feeling those new things!

As far as talking, if I had to bet I'd say Dada will be the first word.  When she babbles there is so much dadada and bababa that I'll be shocked if Dada isn't first.  Speaking of her Dad, they got to stay home and play one day last week when our babysitter was out.  It happened to be like 70 degrees out that day so they went on a little park date and I know they had a great time! Andy kept me posted with all their photos which were so fun to see :)

Harper's favorite toys right now are probably her laugh and learn puppy, her old-fashioned telephone and basically anything she can chew on :)  She has started sleeping through the night... or at least not eating any during the night. Sometimes she will wake up and if she can't find her paci we'll go in and give it to her.  I must say, it has been nice for this momma to get a little bit more sleep.  We did one night of "sleep training" and while it was awful and sad and we hated to hear her cry we felt like it was probably time and honestly she's been happier during the day since she's sleeping a bit better at night.  The best thing is probably that we just lay her down now and she falls asleep on her own rather than trying to rock her to sleep then carefully place her while crossing your fingers not to wake her lol.  She has been moving her bedtime up a little bit which makes me sad, especially on the days that I get home later and don't get to spend quite as much time with her.  This month I don't have to be in until 8 though so I normally get to feed and play with her in the mornings for a bit!

Her hair has gotten so much longer and still has a mind of it's own! She got my cowlick on the right so it is always parted to the left and usually sticking straight up lol.  She gets lots of compliments from strangers ;)  She also still has the 3 inch long rattail in the back ;) She's wearing mostly 6 or 6-9 months.  She is long waisted and skinny through her waist with a few rolls on her cute little legs :)

We got a bit of snow here in Lexington the past few days and Andy had been dying to take Harper sledding once we finally got enough snow for it.  We're not exactly sure how much Harper enjoyed the snow considering she didn't budge as soon as we put her in her snow suit.  She just freezes when she gets into the huge polar bear outfit but it's awfully cute! Our sledding expedition lasted approximately 10 minutes lol.

We got to celebrate Mom's 53rd birthday yesterday with the fam which was great! I am afraid Harper may be getting a bit of stranger anxiety.  Although she does love her Aunt Olivia! haha.  David complains that she's either crying or asleep when he sees her but I told him it's cause we always have dinner at like 7pm which is not harpers friendliest time of day - she's definitely a morning girl!  We're having my sibs and some friends over for the Super Bowl tonight so we'll see how she manages to behave herself ;)

Here's a pic of our little girl - this month was exceptionally difficult to get her to sit still and not attack the 7  month paper!

 love some squash!

hanging out with mom, distracted by the TV
working on soccer skills with dad
we brought some snow in for Harper to play with

  1. Laura, she is an absolute doll! So fun to read about her milestones :-) P.S. What a coincidence that shortly after our Starbucks date those pearly whites showed up--I remember you speculating that she was teething!
