The beginning of may had me wrapping up med school officially with some classwork. Harper and cam became bffs during that week as he kept her for me a few hours! In a span of four days I had graduation, my birthday and mother's day... poor Andy ;) It was so fun though! For my birthday we went out to Thursday night live with the sibs and let Harper people/dog watch and crawl around. Of course we had ice cream cake which Harper loved - she is ready to tear into some cake I think!!
Graduation went well and Harper was able to learn to crawl stairs while avoiding the 2 hour long formalities :) After the ceremony we all went outside to take some pictures and I think Harper made her Grammy's day... I went to take her from Grammy and she looked so scared of me and laid her little head down on Grammy. I think it must've been the hat because she could not take her eyes off of it! The following day we celebrated mother's day and we were lucky to visit with both my mom and sue as well as grandmom king! Harper had gone above and beyond by painting me two canvases which I loved ;)
We have a vacation to Florida coming up soon and we had been talking about taking bikes down with us so I've been looking for a bike seat for Harper. I found one where the kid rides in front and Cam was able to borrow one from a friend. We did a family fun bike ride in downtown Lexington with Cam and David just to test harper out and make sure she was okay with her new seat. She was awake the first five miles or so and would squeal and yell.. and then the next thing I saw her big ol' helmet head was flopped over on Andy's arm and she had passed out. Poor thing! We have been bike riding almost every day though and she loves it! The neighborhood we live in used to be a horse farm and we found out that a lot of the old farm roads/barns still exist so we've made a few trips through the farm for a little change of scenery.
We jetted up to Cincinnati one evening to hit up Ikea so that we could work on a little playroom for Harper. Our living room seriously gets overrun with toys and with her recent discovery of stairs, she is nonstop trying to sneak up the front hall and climb. One of bedrooms upstairs is really large so we moved the furniture to the basement and have turned it into a little area just for her. She loves the tunnels and her "reading nook" the most I think.
We also made a trip to the Cincinnati zoo over memorial day weekend. Harper loved it!! She's fascinated by animals and as long as they were either close up or moving a lot she would totally pay attention. She had an eye for birds - there were three huge elephants pretty close up to us and all the sudden she starts squealing and flapping her arms and I realized she was so excited about some pigeons splashing around below the elephant :) It's interesting what amuses them! We fed some goats at the petting zoo and she clung on to me for dear life - she loved watching them but not so much touching them.
Harper got to have a couple playdates with her little buddy Peyton :) She is always initially amused and happy but then doesn't really pay her much attention... I'm excited for the girls to get a little bit bigger so the six month age difference doesn't seem as much! We also were graced with another one of Harper's bff's... Olivia :) It seriously is the cutest thing how excited Harper gets whenever she sees Olivia! They are two peas in a pod!!
Harper's favorite tricks now still include giving kisses, hugs, fake coughing, clapping, finding her head, saying baa, climbing stairs and clicking her tongue. She is saying mamamama all the time - but especially when she's mad/frustrated lol... She's saying 'Mom get over and take care of me!' She is cruising around on everything and has a few walkers that she will push around. Pretty wobbly on her own though so I'm sure she won't be walking by the time we make it to the beach. She still loves reading books - her favorite one makes her crack up laughing every time we read it! She also loooves being outside. We swing, take walks, blow bubbles and ride bikes all the time.
I've been working on first birthday party crafts and am pretty excited - though kind of nervous! I'm trying to keep it pretty lowkey but I just get all excited and can have a tendency to go overboard kind of quickly. I just remind myself that she could be in a bad mood/sleep half the party! haha... and will not remember a thing. With that said, we're just going to grill out for it on the afternoon of June 23 - I really only sent out invitations to immediate family cause I don't want to make people feel obligated to come to a 1 year olds birthday... but if anyone happens to be in Lexington we'd love to have you! :) And I have a reallllly cute invitation that I'd love to send ;)
Clearly her birthday party is a little bit early but we just had to get it in before residency starts... woh woh woh :( This is gonna be one sad little mama when it's time to get back to the real world :(
Anyhoo - I'm guessing she weighs 16.5 or 17 lbs now and is probably 29 inches. Still likes most foods but is pretty much over cheerios now. Especially loves yogurt, cheese, blueberries, bananas, popsicles and ice cream ;) She's wearing 9-12 mostly still. And she got two new teeth this month!! The top right is definitely through the gum and the left one is still working its way out :)
Here's some pictures of her past month!
