13 Months!

Well I couldn't decide if I was going to try and keep up with these monthly posts but I've decided to give it my best shot... though I'm sure they will never be on time.  Working 70+ hours/week this month makes typing on the computer the last thing I want to do when I get home but this combines pictures with memories better than I'm able to do in her baby book :)

July was a great month filled with so, so many activities! I was lucky to have all my weekends off since my first month was a psych rotation... which was fortunate since we had weddings, baby showers, wedding showers galore!  Harper did great with a transition back to full time babysitter w/ Kate.  I miss her so much when I'm at work but know that it's the best decision for the long term.

We celebrated Harper's second July 4th!! Somehow I got lucky and had the day off so we had a ton of big plans... that got rained out:( but we did at least drive downtown to watch a parade in the car! Not the most exciting thing, but Harper enjoyed seeing the horses.  We've now got horse, cow, sheep, dog and bird down as far as noises go :)

We celebrated Kelsie's beautiful wedding day which was a blast!! I seriously had high hopes Harper would be a full-time walker by then so she could rock out on the dance floor in her cute little dress... unfortunately it didn't quite happen but she did her best to crawl out there as often as possible ;)

We went to a couple showers for baby Claire and are getting so, so excited for her to join the family!! Harper and Claire might have gotten matching pillow case dresses for football season... and they are going to be absolutely precious in them!  She will be here before we know it.  And our awesome babysitter is going to keep both girls which will be awesome for Harper to have a playmate... and someone to share some attention with ;)

We also trekked up to Indiana to visit with family and were able to take Harper out onto the lake for the first time!  She did great on the boat- wanted to crawl all around but that was ok :) And fortunately it was only like 75 out but the water was warmer so no one was sweltering on the boat.  Eventually we'd love to get a boat so all our future kiddos can grow up as little lake babies!! ;)

Harper started saying Dada this month so her vocabulary repertoire now consists of mama, dada, up, ball, bye, hi, olivia, bite.  She knows where her head, ears, mouth, eyes and toes are.  And she also is doing the itsy bitsy spider.  I had no idea she knew any of the motions then one day I was singing the song and she just did all of them! It's kind of frightening to think what other things she secretly knows and is absorbing... must be on our best behavior! haha.

On the more frustrating side, Harper has a temper forreal!  I will not say who I'm afraid this came from... but homegirl knows exactly what she wants and will arch her back into a meltdown when it doesn't happen.  It's fine at home because it can just be ignored or redirected but gets hard in public because I hate for her to be disruptive to others.  I have seen her bite a couple of objects before in frustration but fortunately for now she has not turned her little teeth to people yet... I am nervous for this to happen and hope it happens at home before at school.  And speaking of school, Harper will start a mother's day out program at the beginning of September!  She will go two mornings a week for 3 hours each.  I think it will be good for her to socialize with some other kiddos and learn about sharing, playing with others, etc.  I am very nervous for her but know it's in her best interest to be in that kind of environment.

She took her first few steps this month... she had been taking 1 or 2 at a time but we wouldn't count it until there were at least 3 or more... haha  which she finally has achieved!  She still prefers to crawl when she is really after something but will amuse us by walking back and forth between us occasionally :)

She's very into reading her books and will always pick her favorites up and bring them over to me to read to her.  Her one favorite hobby is still climbing up the stairs to go into the playroom! I'm afraid it's something we should not have ever allowed because she will climb on the stairs all day long if we would let her... gates may be in our future!  She loves being outside and is no longer afraid of grass.. .haha.  It was nice while it lasted because a blanket served as a little gate for us.  Now if you turn your head for more than 2 seconds she's off into the neighbors yard or crawling through the garden.

At Harper's 1 year check up she weighed 17lbs 10oz, was 30 inches (i think?) and had 6 teeth.  Still in size 3 diapers and mostly 12 month clothes :)
