It is so hard to believe sweet Emma Kate just turned a year old!! She has obviously grown and changed so much over the last year and over the last couple months is really starting to get her own sassy little personality!!
EK was not the only one with a birthday, we also celebrated Andy's big 3-0!! He unfortunately had to play in his golf men's league on his actual bday but we whipped him up his favorite cake and stayed up late to help him celebrate :) Over the following days he was complaining of some aches and pains and said 30 must finally be getting up there in age... ha!
We spent the last week of her first year on vacation and it truly was one of the best vacations I've ever been on in my life! We went down to New Smyrna Beach and stayed with some of Andy's best friends from high school. They have a beautiful home and it was so relaxing to be there plus so wonderful to also visit with friends! It's about a 15 min drive from the beach so every free day we would hit the beach which both girls loved. Emma Kate was all about walking towards the water (while still holding onto our fingers) and was also content to just plop down in the sand. Harper loved the big waves and also looooved building a sand castle! EK was great about not putting sand in her mouth so overall it was still completely relaxing having them at the beach :) It was warm and sunny but not overwhelmingly hot and sweet emma kate napped everyday while we were on the beach so it was so nice to get those sweet snuggles.
On the other days of our trip we went back to Disney!!! We stayed at an awesome Disney Hotel complete with a sand bottom pool and somehow got upgraded to their club level that had drinks/food available all day?! crazy! The first morning there we went to a breakfast with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto at Ohana that was so fun. During the breakfast all the characters do a little parade around the restaurant with the kids and Harper got to lead the parade with Lilo! so cool! Later we went to Downtown Disney, hung out, shopped a bit and shared some ice cream. Then we spent the afternoon just hanging out at our hotel pool.
The next day was Magic Kingdom day - we were there for the park opening and stayed until the fireworks were complete!!! Long but awesome day. The lines were not long at all so we rode everything their heights allowed - Harper's favorite was the carousel and EK's favorite was Dumbo. The rides are so entertaining that both of them totally chilled out and were entertained during each ride, so fun. We also had lunch in the castle with the Princesses which was pretty special!! Another of my favorites that I'd never done before was Storytime with Belle - they give all the kids a part in a play with Belle and it is super interactive. Harper was Chip (the teacup) and Andy even got invited to be a guard ;)
We didn't make it to bed until about midnight and were absolutely beat. We had originally planned to go to Animal Kingdom the following day but decided to check out of our hotel late and just lounge at the pool all day. We then headed back to Brooke and Evan's and were well rested for Animal Kingdom the following day. Both of the girls are little animal lovers so Animal Kingdom was a big hit :)
Our last day of vacation was May 9th, Emma Kate's first birthday and my 28th!! Andy surprised us with a little cake which everyone loved :) We then drove to Savannah, GA for dinner and the rest of the night to get back to Lexington. The following day was Mother's Day so we made a whirlwind trip to Louisville and Etown to see both our mom's.
I had to take off two weeks in a row so the second week I just got to hang out with my girls at home. It was great to have that week to get laundry done and things caught up since we had a special first birthday the following weekend!! I had so much fun staying at home and I've been suffering from post-vacation blues this week after being so spoiled the last two weeks!!
EK's birthday was Twinkle Twinkle little Star theme since she is a our little songbird. She of course loved her cake and probably would never have stopped eating if I hadn't taken the cake ;) She took her first few steps a couple days after her birthday and is getting ever so slightly braver. She won't let go of the couch and walk to us so basically someone has to pry her hand off our finger then let her go free and she will make her way to closest person :) Whenever she's about 3 steps away she will lunge face first for us no everytime but can walk pretty far if you keep scooting a little bit further away.
She has four teeth that are so sweet with her little grins :) She says Mom, Dad, Hi, Bye, Harper, Riley and Uh oh. She loves all things musical and loved all the instruments she got for her birthday :) She got a few shots for her 1 year WCC and was 20 lbs 8 oz and 29 inches :) Growing big! She loves allll food and dominates PB&Js and basically anything else you put on her plate... and whatever leftovers are on Harper's plate. ha!
She is still Momma's girl and going back to work this week has been a little rough but she did get to be better buddies with Dad while we were off as well :) She loves playing with Harper and listening to them make each other laugh while deliriously tired on our way to the beach was pretty darn hilarious.
